Four killed as trawler capsizes in Bangladesh

Four persons, including a child, were killed and 14 others are missing after a sand-laden cargo vessel crashed into a trawler in Meghna river in central Bangladesh.
The Dhaka-bound vessel rammed into trawler carrying about 75 passengers around 8:00 pm yesterday near Bhasanchar in Munshiganj's Gozaria upazila, police said.
Three bodies, including one of a three-year-old, were found floating on the water in Mollakandi area early today. Another youth, in his mid-twenties, was found flattened between the two vessels after the incident, The Daily Star reported.
Both vessels were spotted around half a kilometre from the scene of the accident near the riverbank.

Witnesses said the cargo vessel hit the trawler at the front. Most of the passengers were rescued and some managed to swim ashore.
Ferry disasters are common in Bangladesh due to poor safety standards.
On February 13, at least five persons, including a minor, were killed when an overloaded ferry carrying 200 passengers, mostly devotees, capsized in the Paira river.
Last August, another ferry sank in a river in Bangladesh, killing about 130 people.
