Four killed in rain-related incidents in Telangana

Four persons were killed and six others injured in separate rain-related incidents in Medak district of Telangana, police said today.
According to Vidya Sagar Reddy, Sub Inspector of Police Kulcharam Police Station, a man drowned while trying to save his son who was caught in storm waters today.
The incident occurred when a young boy identified as Srikanth got stuck in a car on his way to Yeldurty after flooding near Kongudu village bridge, police said.
When he gave a distress call to his father Nayini Swamy (58), he rushed to the spot to save him but drowned after losing balance, they said.
While Srikanth was rescued by locals, Swamy's body was fished out and sent for post-mortem.
In another incident, two members of a family died and two others were hurt in a house collapse on Golconda street in Medak town in the wee hours while they were deep asleep, said Sai Eshwar Goud Inspector Medak Police Station.
The deceased have been identified as Kalavati (35) and Tulasi (8), he said.
Elsewhere in Mubarakpur village in Sadasivpet police limits, a 60-year-old woman identified as Shamamma died in a house collapse incident, said Venkatesham, Circle inspector of police Sadasivpet police station.
Also, four persons of a family were injured in a house collapse due to heavy rains in Kanukunta village of Jinnaram mandal today.
Two of them were shifted to Gandhi hospital in Hyderabad for treatment in a critical condition.
Medak district has been receiving heavy rains since last ten days.
During the last 24 hours, Medak district received nearly 11 cm average rainfall with Chinna Shankrampet mandal recording the highest 21 cm rainfall.
Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao has reviewed the situation in the district and directed district administration to be alert in case of any eventuality.
Also an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh has been announced for the kin of the deceased.
