They said the family were on their way back home here last evening after visiting the M M Hills at Kollegal in Karnataka and the Kodumdi temple at Coimbatore when the mishap occurred.
Police suspect the car driver, also its owner, might have dozed off due to tiredness after which the car slammed the wall of the bridge and fell off it.
The injured persons have been hospitalised.
