Police said a large number of women had assembled at Kwakta area around 9 am and tried to enforce the 24-hour strike called by Khousabung Sub-division Demand Committee.
Teargas shells were burst and batons were weilded to disperse them, the police said.
The stirke had begun yesterday midnight and has disrupted traffic in the area. It had also affected Torbung and Kangvai localities of Churachandpur district, police said.
Spokesperson of the committee, Ng Sang Gangte said the strike was imposed as the government had failed to respond to the aspiration of the people of Khousabung, even after 40 days had passed since a memorandum was submitted to the authorities.
