ULFA(Independent) 'commander-in-chief' Paresh Baruah's family today suggested that the money given from Assam Chief Minister's Relief Fund for his ailing mother be instead given to the needy and flood-hit people in the state.
Baruah's octogenarian mother Miliki Baruah told reporters here, "I do not need help from the government...I am on the verge of death. That money can instead be given to needy and the flood-affected people."
On Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi yesterday offering safe passage to Paresh Baruah, on the run for about three decades, to see his ailing mother in his native place here, Miliki said, "My son coming to see me only will not do. He has to assess the purpose for which he had gone away from home and then decide whether to come back or not."
Paresh's three brothers Pradeep, Bikul and Bimal, who met the press in their house, also expressed the same views as their mother.
Asking the government to use the Rs one lakh offered by the government to Miliki Baruah for the needy and the flood-hit people, they said "Paresh's coming will not be enough. He has to discuss with the people of Assam their hopes and aspirations and only after that decide to come or not."
"Where are Paresh's comrades and the politicians who used to earlier come to take blessings from our mother? No one has come now to inquire how she is," they added.
Gogoi had yesterday wished Miliki, a social worker, for her speedy recovery and said that if Paresh Baruah desired to see his ailing mother in his native place the government would consider it on "humanitarian grounds".
