The administration today said it has sent a reminder to authorities concerned to provide government schools with sanitation workers, whose appointment ceased after the panchayat system was abolished here.
"As areas now fall under the Noida and the Greater Noida authorities, the district magistrate, B N Singh, had written to them to provide sanitation staff for the schools. A reminder regarding which was sent today," District Basic Education Officer Parvesh Kumar Yadav said here.
More than 250 junior high schools in the district are facing a tough time in keeping their campuses clean without sanitation workers, president of Junior High School Teachers Association, Niranjan Singh Nagar, claimed.
The problem arised after the panchayat system was abolished here and in Greater Noida, he said.
"Earlier, the village pradhans used to appoint 'safai karamcharis'. But after the system ended, the pradhans say they do not have the power to make the appointments," Nagar said.
The reminder was sent following a meeting between members of the Association and the Gautam Buddha Nagar Basic Education Officer on Friday.
"We have requested the officer to make arrangements for providing the staff for cleaning of schools," Nagar said.
Virendra Dhada, former chairman district panchayat, said, "As areas acquired by Noida and Greater Noida authorities have been urbanised, there was a need for urban local bodies, and the authorities concerned were given powers of municipal corporation. Therefore, they should provide the sanitation staff for the schools."
Officials at the Noida and the Greater Noida authorities said staff will be provided for cleaning of schools.
