With the arrest of four persons police here have busted a gang whose members used to stop cars by posing as policemen and rob the occupants.
Elaborating their modus operandi, police said the gang used to beat the vehicle drivers before stripping and dumping them at isolated places to buy enough time to escape.
They were arrested yesterday by the special staff of South West Delhi police and three cars and an auto along with Delhi Police ASI rank uniforms were seized from them.
Investigations have revealed that the gang was planning a big robbery, one on the lines of Lajpat Nagar heist in which around Rs 8 crore were robbed using stolen cars.
"They wanted to rob a Hawala dealer near Piragarhi Chowk and for this they needed vehicles so they robbed these cars.
"They also disclosed that they used to wear police uniform as car drivers easily stopped the vehicle after seeing policemen," said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Dinesh Kumar Gupta.
