The robbers snatched Rs 17,000 and a bracelet valued at about Rs 1 lakh from a tourist at knife-point on December 25 in St. Inez locality here, and tried to escape, Police Inspector Siddhant Shirodkar said.
Two India Reserve Battalion (IRB) constables, Sachin Harmalkar and Rupesh Kale, who were on duty in the area at the time of the crime, chased the robbers. Constable Shekhar Amonkar, who was approaching from the opposite side, was able to catch hold of two of the robbers, while the other two managed to escape, he said.
The stolen items were recovered from the duo, he said, adding they have been sent to five-day police custody.
The names of all the three policemen, who fought the robbers, have been recommended for an award from the Police department, he said.
