Jagtap is also an accused in the advocate Shahid Azmi murder case; recently he was booked for firing at the extradited gangster Abu Salem at Taloja jail near here.
"JD was acquitted as the prosecution could not bring any evidence other than the deceased man's dying declaration," said his lawyer, advocate Sameer Pradhan.
Earlier, the court had acquitted five other accused in this case. Jagtap's trial was separated as he was arrested later.
Navghar police had registered a case against six persons including JD for shooting dead a man called Adi Mahaparab in suburban Mulund in 2005.
Judge U B Shukla acquitted Jagtap for prosecution's failure to prove the case against him.
Shahid Azmi murder case is still pending before the trial court.
