Anti-corruption vigilance officials have arrested a girls education coordinator in Odisha's Kalahandi district for allegedly accepting bribe from a supplier for clearing pending bills worth Rs 1 lakh.
The vigilance officials laid a trap and caught the GEC, Priyabrata Nayak, while accepting the bribe of Rs 10,000 from the proprietor of a trading firm yesterday, a vigilance official said.
The bribe was allegedly sought from the proprietor for recommending release of the pending bill amounting to Rs 1,11,000, he said.
The bill related to supply of grocery items to a school under Kalampur block and another school under Junagarh block in Kalahandi district for the month of August, he said.
The bribe was recovered from Nayak's pocket. A search was also carried out at his residence at Bhabanipatna, the official said.
In another incident, one Bhabani Sankar Jaysingh, a gram rojgar sevak (GRS) in Khurda district, was caught by vigilance officers yesterday while accepting Rs 10,000 as bribe, the vigilance official said.
The GRS had demanded Rs 10,000 for recommending release of the final instalment towards construction of a house under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.
The complainant was allotted a house under the PMAY scheme in the name of his wife in 2016-17. A work order was issued in favour of his wife and a sum of Rs 20,000 and Rs 70,000 were released in two instalments on different dates.
Jaysingh was supervising the construction work of the house.
When the complainant approached Jaysingh for recommending the release of the final instalment, the latter demanded Rs 10,000 for the purpose, after which the matter was reported to the vigilance.
