GEM Hospital performs surgeries for tribals in Maharashtra

Surgeons of the city-based Gem Hospital, in association with DMIMS of Nagpur, performed surgeries on 38 tribals in a remote forest area in Maharashtra as part of a laparoscopic camp.
This was for the first time laparoscopic surgery camp was held there and 38 patients -- 31 hernia, five gall bladder stone and two hysterectomy -- were operated upon, Gen Hospital Chairman Dr C Palanivelu said in a release here today.
The camp was organised by social reformer Dr Prakash Amte, who is running a hospital Lok Biradari Prakalp at Hemalkasa village for the benefit of tribal population, he said.

To the surprise of the surgeons, none of the patients was suffering from diabetes, since all were hard working, with thin and muscular built body, Palanivelu said.
