West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh today supported Doordarshan's decision not to broadcast the recorded Independence Day speech of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar unless he "reshaped it".
Ghosh said being a chief minister does not give one the right to say something which might create confusion within the society.
"The communists since the very beginning have interpreted our independence movement in their own way and have misinterpreted the history. But if they try to do the same thing now the society will not accept it," he told reporters.
"Being an elected representative or chief minister doesn't give someone the right to say something which is against our culture and history and might create a confusion," Ghosh told reporters.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar yesterday alleged that Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR) refused to broadcast his Independence Day address unless he "reshaped" it and termed it as an "undemocratic, autocratic and intolerant step".
Doordarshan today said it has given "wide coverage" to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar's Independence day programme but was silent on his complaint that his recorded speech was blacked out by both Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR).
