Girl drowns while taking selfie

A girl drowned in the Alaknanda while taking a selfie along the banks of the river in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district.
The incident took place yesterday when the girl slipped off the banks of Alaknanda while trying to take a selfie and was washed away by the swirling river, Koteshwar police station in-charge DS Panwar said.
Ashna Bhandari, a class XII student of Pauri central school, was part of a group of nine students, who had come from Pauri to pay obeisance at Koteshwar temple, he said.
After visiting the temple they went to the cave located on the banks of Alaknanda where the incident happened.

Her friends raised an alarm as they saw her drowning.
On hearing cries, a man, Mahant Shivanandji Maharaj rushed to the spot and reported the matter to the police. The girl's body has not been recovered yet.
