Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, along with Union Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain, today flagged off a new train - the Gita-Ganga Express - between Hisar and Haridwar via Kurukshetra and Ambala.
Gohain and Khattar were here to take part in the International Gita festival.
The Haryana chief minister along with the Union ministeralso inaugurated the construction work on a new Rohtak-Meham-Hansi railway line and laid the foundation stone of renovation work of the Kurukshetra railway station.
Khattar said that passengers would be able to board the Gita-Ganga Express at Kurukshetra at 10:40 am, according to an official release.
A train, Gita Jayanti, Express was started last year between Haridwar and Mathura, Khattar said. These two trains would connect Mathura and Kurukshetra with Haridwar, Khattar said.
He also said that upon its completion, the Rohtak-Meham- Hansi rail line would shorten the distance by about 70 kilometres.
He said that more rail infrastructure had been developed in the last three years than had been developed in 48 years. The Sonepat-Jind rail line has linked central and western Haryana.
Gohain said that Rs nine crore would be spent on renovation of Kurukshetra railway station.
