Nobel laureate and child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi today advocated globalisation with human values and compassion to make a better world for the future.
"Economic growth and human development need to go hand in hand. Human values need to be advocated vigorously," Satyarthi said while delivering a keynote address after giving away Jamnalal Bajaj awards here.
The Delhi-based activist said globalisation with human face is a superficial theory as he believes the need for development with a human soul.
"There should be compassion and compassion begins with children. Those who believe in betterment do not sleep as they strive to make a better world for tomorrow," he added.
Observing that India may be a land of hundred problems but is also the mother of one billion solutions, Satyarthi said the Nobel award given to him for his efforts to create a non-violent society is for each and every Indian.
Lauding the achievements of this year's Jamnalal Bajaj awardees, Satyarathi said the DNA of Gandhian ideals binds all.
"Gandhian thoughts and ideals are easy to remember for the sake of fashion but a huge responsibility to imbibe and inculcate (them)," he said.
Recalling an incident in his childhood, Satyarathi said he had organised an event to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi where food prepared by women scavengers was supposed to be eaten by politicians considered to be icons of a society.
"The food was prepared but none came to eat it. I and my friends did so with tears in our eyes. I decided that I will give up my caste henceforth.
"I realised that there is more humanity and morals among ordinary citizens than in the ones who we consider as ideals. There are ordinary people who fight against all odds, injustice, violence every day to uphold moral values," he added.
