Goa government is planning to control the rising prices of locally made bread by introducing a scheme under which subsidy will be provided on the raw material to bakers.
State-run Goa Handicrafts Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited (GHRSSIDC) will implement this scheme retrospectively, beginning from October last year.
The scheme, to be officially launched on June 23, will benefit 700 bakers in the state, GHRSSIDC chairman Lavu Mamledar told reporters today.
It intends to keep the existing price of bread, which is Rs three per unit, stable for the next five years, he said.
"The government may review the prices of bread after five years," Mamledar said.
The scheme has listed bakers in three categories, depending on their production capacity, and subsidy would be provided to them on refined flour (maida), the raw material procured by them.
