With thermal power plants feeding electricity to Goa going on an annual overhaul, the state government has begun loaning 100MW power daily from private players to make up for power shortage.
"The shortage of 100MW has been met by procuring power from the Energy Bank, a syndicate of private players which trades in electricity, with the condition that the state will repay them in the form of power once it will have surplus power," Power Minister Milind Naik told reporters here today.
The Energy Bank has been charging five per cent extra power to the state besides wheeling charges of 64 paisa per unit. The power would be procured from the bank for next one month till the situation normalises, he said.
"The supply from National Thermal Power Corporation has gone down as the plants are shut down for annual maintenance," Naik said, adding the state has power shortage of 100MW during the peak hours.
The coastal state requires 480MW of power during the peak time.
