Goa seeks export duty exemption for 58-60 grade iron ore

The Goa government has approached the Union Ministry of Mines, seeking an exemption from the export duty on 58-60 grade content iron ore.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar met Union mines minister Narendra Singh Tomar and environment minister Dr Harsh Vardhan in New Delhi today.
Parrikar said he requested the Union mines minister to remove the existing 30 per cent export duty on 58-60 grade iron ore.
At present, the export duty on low grade ore upto 58 grade is exempted from the export duty, and the same concession should be extended to the ore up to 60 grade, he said.

This will help the industry which is currently facing problems due to low prices in the international market, he said.
The chief minister, during his meeting with Dr Harsh Vardhan, sought support from his ministry over the plea filed by state government in the Supreme Court, seeking to raise the cap on iron ore exports from 20 MT to 30 MT annually.
