Elsewhere, silver slipped following hectic speculative selling amid subdued industrial offtake.
Standard gold (99.5 purity) dipped by Rs 330 to end at Rs 28,710 per 10 grams from Tuesday's level of Rs 29,040.
Pure gold (99.9 purity) also moved down by a similar margin to conclude at Rs 28,860 per 10 grams from Rs 29,190.
Silver (.999 fineness) slid by Rs 350 per kg to finish at Rs 36,550 against Rs 36,900 previously.
Globally, gold dropped for a second session as the dollar rose and global shares strengthened after strong US data rekindled speculation the Federal Reserve could still raise interest rates this year.
