Functionaries of Temple Protection Committee today decided to conduct a rally to Rajnivas on December 18 to register their protest against the move of Puducherry government to sell lands bequeathed in the past by devout Hindus for maintenance of the temples and for conducting routine rituals.
R V Saminathan the convenor of the committee and general secretary of Puducherry unit of BJP said here that a joint meeting of the protagonists of Hindu traditions and temple rituals held here today adopted a resolution to take out a rally on December 18 to protest against the government's move.
He said that the participants would lay a siege at the end of the rally at Rajnivas to urge the government to drop its move to dispose off the temple lands.
Saminathan said that the government had come out with a notification to sell the temple lands which was absolutely striking at the root of the intention of those who donated the lands to the temples in the past.
