The government bungalow allotted to ailing former Uttar Pradesh chief minister N D Tiwari was vacated and the keys were handed over to the state's Estate Department today, his son claimed.
With this the official residences of all the six former chief ministers have been vacated and their keys handed over to the state government in compliance with the Supreme Court verdict in this regard.
The Estate Department staff this afternoon visited the 1-A Mall Avenue residence and after the checking of the invoice, the keys were handed over to them, Tiwari's son Rohit Shekhar said.
Since the family is attending to Tiwari in a Delhi hospital, his staff was directed to make all arrangements to shift the belongings for vacating the bungalow and inform the Estate Department about it, Shekhar said.
Tiwari's wife had earlier written a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seeking a year's time to vacate the government bungalow allotted to him citing his bad health but the family had got all their belongings shifted through their staff in the state capital.
"Since the government took a humanitarian stand in view of the ill health of my father and did not trouble us with any more reminders, we decided to vacate the bungalow as we did not want to sully his image," Shekhar said
