As the government prepares to roll out a mission to provide health insurance to the poor for free, Health Minister J P Nadda today said that it was committed to providing quality health care to all with a focus on marginalised communities.
He said the BJP government will ensure that all have equal access to necessary medicines.
At a function to mark five years of a memorandum of understanding in the health sector between India and Sweden, he informed a Swedish delegation about the salient features of National Health Assurance Mission (NAHM) and the government's commitment to strengthen the regulatory authorities in health care.
Nadda said there have been appreciable achievements under the bilateral collaboration between the two countries in public health, R&D, adolescent, mental health and tertiary healthcare.
Sweden's Health Minister Gabriel Wikstrom and its Ambassador to India Harald Sandberg were also present on the occasion.
Nadda said there has been an upswing in the bilateral relationship between both the countries and he looks forward to further deepening of ties.
"The cooperation in health care between India and Sweden will enable filling in gaps in research and innovative technology to aid provisioning of quality healthcare," he said, according to a Health Ministry statement.
