Govt moves resolution urging Centre for solution to Naga

Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang today moved a resolution in the Assembly, urging the Centre to take steps for an "honourable solution" to the Naga political issue before the Assembly elections due in early 2018.
The resolution moved on the opening day of the two-day winter session also urged the Election Commission not to announce state elections until the Centre "arrives at an honourable solution to the Naga political issue in order to enable all Nagas to enjoy their due democratic and other rights".
The resolution called upon the civil society, tribal hohos, church and other organisations concerned to cooperate with the vision of the state government.

It also urged all political parties and independent candidates to implement the demand for a "solution before election" in the field, whenever necessary, so that utmost unity is displayed before the Centre and the Election Commission.
The resolution was moved as per the consultative meet of the Nagaland Legislators' Forum with parliamentarians, former parliamentarians and ex-legislators held on December 7 in Kohima urging the state Assembly to pass a separate resolution on the issue.
The chief minister also moved another resolution in the Assembly to revoke the November 26, 2016 resolution of the House empowering implementation of women reservation in the urban local bodies.

The government also introduced the Nagaland Lokayukta Bill 2015 in the Assembly.
Speaker Imtiwapang Aier announced that the Lokayukta Bill and the two resolutions on Women Reservation and Naga political issue would be taken up tomorrow for deliberation and consideration.
