Govt planning to amend immoral traffic, juvenile justice acts

The government is planning to amend two acts on immoral trafficking and juvenile justice, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath informed the Lok Sabha today.
Replying to a question, she said her ministry has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Group under the chairmanship of Additional Secretary in the WCD ministry for amending the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
The group also has representatives from the ministries of Home Affairs and Law and Justice, Delhi Police, National Commission for Women, National Mission for Empowerment of Women and three Delhi-based NGOs to suggest on the required amendments in the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, she said.

Tirath said the group had discussed various provisions of the act and recommendations made by various organisations and submitted a report to the ministry.
Based on the group's suggestions, the Ministry has prepared a cabinet note proposing amendments to the act, she said.
In response to a question regarding redefining the age for juveniles, Tirath said the amendment to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 is also under consideration of the ministry.
Tirath further told the house that her ministry had formulated a scheme of 'Restorative Justice to Victims of Rape'. She said the scheme envisaged a financial assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh and provision of support services.

Answering another question, Tirath said the number of children placed in inter-country adoptions from April 2012 to December 2012 was 242.
