Govt sanctions Rs 5,100 crore funds for SSB and Assam Rifles

More than Rs 5,100 crore funds were today approved by the government for infrastructure creation of two paramilitary forces which guard two international borders of the country.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, sanctioned funds to the tune of Rs 3,510.07 crore to the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), which guards the frontiers with Nepal and Bhutan, for construction of officie and residential buildings and border outposts at various establishments of the force during the 12th Five Year Plan.
The funds will also be used by the SSB to construct barracks and non-residential buildings. CCEA also approved construction of 2,000 houses and ten barracks at 12 sites at an estimated cost of Rs 413.88 crore for the force.
The CCEA also approved funds for construction of office and buildings for the Assam Rifles at a cost of Rs 969.96 crore.
"This includes construction of 113 barracks, 8 hospitals and 180 other office buildings," an official statement issued after the meeting said.
In addition, construction of 840 houses was also approved at six sites of the paramilitary at an estimated cost of Rs 217.54 crore, the statement said.
