Almost all political parties, including the ruling allies, today said Jharkhand government should take the initiative to define its own policy for locals and give priority to them in government jobs and other facilities.
"All other states in the country have their own local policy. So Jharkhand government should also initiate a move in defining the policy for locals," Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and ex-deputy chief minister Sudhir Mahato told PTI.
"This will help local people get priority in jobs," added Mahato, a vice president of the ruling JMM.
Backing Mahato's opinion, Congress spokesman Sailesh Sinha told PTI that, "Local policy should be defined taking all sections into consideration and maintaining social harmony."
Asking the Hemant Soren-led coalition government to 'first study' the policies of other states before defining a local policy for Jharkhand, BJP's state unit spokesman Prem Mittal told PTI that care should be taken that nobody should be deprived when a policy for local was made.
Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantric-JVM) Principal General Secretary and Legislature party leader Pradip Yadav called for studying the policies of other states.
"Other states have their policies for locals, and there should be one in Jharkhand as well," Yadav told PTI.
To know the views of a cross section of people, Ajsu vice president Praveen Prabhakar said the government should convene an all-party meeting, in which other non-political organisations could also take part, before defining a local policy for Jharkhand.
CPI(M) Jharkhand unit secretary, G K Bakshi said, "The government should initiate the move convening an all party meeting or setting up a commission to define the local policy. But the 5th Schedule of the Constitution should be maintained."
The Marxist Coordination Committee General Secretary Haldhar Mahato suggested that the state government should study the local policy of Bihar and "implement it".
Calling for a local policy, the CPI(ML-Liberation) Secretary Janardhan Prasad said the government should initiate the process of recruiting all vacant government jobs immediately.
The opinions of different political parties have come in the background of a statewide bandh called by some local parties tomorrow, demanding the policy for the state natives.
