'Govt working towards empowering marginalised craftspersons'

The annual fair of crafts by artisans of weaker sections began here today even as the government reiterated its commitment towards empowering marginalised and disadvantaged craftspersons.
Social Justice and Empowerment Secretary Sudhir Bhargava launched 10-day long Shilpostav 2014 at Dilli Haat.
"The ministry is working towards empowering marginalised and disadvantaged artisans and in continuance of this, Shilpostav 2014 has been organised," he said.
An official statement said there are 160 stalls where artisans assisted by the apex corporations like National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC), and National Scheduled Caste Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC), display and sell their products.

National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC), National Safai Karamchari Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC) and National Trust are also participating in the event besides national organisations coming under the ministry.
Products like silk sarees, durries, readymade garments, terracotta product, jute products, dress material, Kashmiri shawls and stoles, leather, cane and bamboo products, hand embroidery, bead products, pearls, imitation jewellery among others are on display, the statement said.
