Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda today threatened to resign from Lok Sabha saying "no one" is bothered about the welfare of rural people and farmers.
Giving an emotional speech while participating in a discussion on General Budget, the JD-S leader said his speech could be the last in Parliament and he would not hesitate to resign if interests of farmers are not taken care of.
"This may be my last speech in Parliament. I may resign... No one is bothered about us who come from rural areas. ..I have resigned twice in the past too," he said.
Deve Gowda's comments came minutes after Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai rebuked a few ruling alliance MPs, who was seen talking in the last bench of the treasury bench.
Thambidurai asked the MPs to leave the House if they were not interested in the budget discussion.
"You have to give attention when a former Prime Minister is speaking," he said.
Deve Gowda claimed that the budget has little provision for the welfare of the farmers and domestic industries.
He said his blood boils when there is no initiative for the welfare of farmers.
