Graft cases will affect MP assembly polls results: CPI(M)

Rejecting BJP's claim that the Vyapam scam had no impact on recently held Madhya Pradesh civic polls, CPI(M) today said the graft cases will "surely" affect the results of forthcoming state assembly elections.
Likening BJP's claims to those made by Congress after its tally improved in 2009 polls despite 2G scam rocking the UPA, CPI(M) said it needs to be examined what "means" the ruling party used to get the results.
"BJP's claim that Vyapam scam had no impact in Madhya Pradesh is exactly like what the Congress claimed in 2009 that despite the 2G scam, they came to power with increased number of seats.

"Voters decide how and who to vote for based on type of elections. The charges are now against the state government. So, in the next assembly elections, surely, all these graft cases will have an impact," CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury told PTI on the sidelines of the party's three-day central committee meeting here starting today.
Citing BJP's dismal show during civic polls in Rajasthan, where Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is facing heat over the Lalit Modi issue, Yechury said "it needs to be examined what were the means used by the Madhya Pradesh government apparatus... How it was misused to ensure this result."

After winning eight out of 10 civic bodies in Madhya Pradesh, BJP had said the mandate was a "tight slap" on the face of rival parties and showed that their allegations regarding the Vyapam scam were "fabricated".
In Rajasthan, the BJP managed to win clear majority in 66 out of 129 local bodies. The party, however, suffered setback in Raje's bastion and her son Dushyant Singh's Lok Sabha constituency -- Jhalawar, Dholpur and Baran.
