The NDA won eight of the 39 seats, with the BJP alone getting six seats and its allies LJP and HAM(S) one each.
The JD(U) has bagged 15 seats and is ahead in 56 seats, while its alliance partner RJD won 11 and is leading in 69 constituencies. The Congress is leading in 20.
The BJP is leading 48, LJP in two, RLSP two and HAM(S) one.
The trends after several rounds of counting showed Lalu Prasad's two sons Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejaswi Yadav ahead of their rivals in Mahua and Raghopur in Vaishali district respectively.
RJD leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui is ahead in Alinagar in Darbhanga.
Lalu Prasad's "Man Friday" Bhola Yadav is marching towards victory in Bahadurpur seat in Darbhanga.
Congress stalwart Sadanand Singh is ahead of his LJP rival at Kahalgaon seat.
BJP stalwart Satyadeo Narayan Arya who has won Rajgir (reserved seat) for 8 times in the past is trailing to newcomer JD(U) candidate Ravi Jyoti Kumar by 3972 votes.
HAM chief and former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi is behind his RJD competitor Subedar Das at his sitting seat of Makhdumpur in Jehanabad by 16,379.
But, he is ahead of JD(U) rival Uday Narayan Choudhary at Imamganj reserved seat in Gaya.
BJP leaders Nand Kishore Yadav and Prem Kumar are ahead in their respective seats of Patna Sahib and Gaya town.
As victory news spread, JD(U), RJD and Congress party offices burst into celebration.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad came out together, hugged each other and thanked voters for reposing faith in the grand secular alliance.
