Grand sons, unmarried daughters, sisters too get R&R benefits

In a bid to expand the ambit of Odisha Resettlement and Rehabilitation Policy, the state cabinet today decided to include two more categories as separate families to avail benefits.
Major grandsons irrespective of their marital status and major unmarried daughters and grand daughters and major unmarried sisters would now get the benefits of the policy, Chief Secretary J K Mohapatra said.
He was speaking after a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the proposal of the Revenue and Disaster Management department to amend the Odisha R&R Policy, 2006.
The cabinet also gave its nod to amendment of Registration Act, 1908.

Approval was given for substituting Section 22-A of the act relating to immovable properties of certain categories.
The categories of properties which could not be registered unless permission was given included properties of the state government, local authorities and of any religious institutions to which the Odisha Hindu Religious Endowment Act, 1951 was applicable.

This also included properties donated for Bhoodan Yagna and vested in the Odisha Bhoodan Yagna Samiti established under Section 3 of the Odisha Bhoodan and Gramdan Act, 1970.
Properties belonging to Wakfs which were under the superintendence of the Odisha Wakf Board established under the Wakf Act, 1995 would also come under this category, Mohapatra said.

"Properties recorded in the name of Lord Jagannath Mahaprabhu, Puri also required prior permission of authorities for sale," he said.
The amendment empowered the registering officer not to register any document presented to him unless the transferor produced the record of rights.
