Growth of job creation decelerated significantly in 2015 as some key sectors such as automobiles and gems and jewellery saw layoff of workers, Parliament was informed today.
The total employment generation in 2015 stood at 1.35 lakh compared with 4.21 lakh in 2014, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, quoting the Labour Bureau's quarterly quick employment survey.
The minister, however, said there was a net additional employment of 43.72 lakh (persons) since January 2009.
The sectors that witnessed a negative employment growth in 2015 include automobile, gems and jewellery, transport, leather and handlooms.
To another query, she said the Indian Embassy has come across some instances of Chinese companies infringing copyrights or trademark of Indian brands and products such as Natraj, Raymond, JK Files and Tools, Fevicol, Onida, Godrej, Boroplus and Dabur.
The Customs has booked two cases for import of goods of popular brands - Lotus, Lakme and Ponds.
"On receipt of complainants from Indian companies, the cases of copyrights/trademark violations are taken up at appropriate level with relevant government agencies in China by the Embassy of India in Beijing," she said.
China recognises a "first to file" system, which means that the rights of trademark belongs to the first person/company who properly registers the trademark in China.
"The Chinese side has acted upon few cases by allowing the Indian companies to register with the Trademark Office of the state administration for industry and commerce in China," the minister added.
