The government should safeguard the data shared by people while booking railway tickets and other services through online platforms, a Trinamool Congress leader said today.
Raising the issue during the zero hour in the Rajya Sabha, TMC leader Derek O'Brien also demanded that the Aadhaar identification should not be made mandatory for farmers to get crop loans.
O'Brien also expressed concern over the personal details of members of Parliament being at the risk of being exposed as they are allowed to submit Zero Hour issues and questions via email.
He said that even the IRCTC railway database was exposed while booking tickets.
Maintaining that there was no data protection, the TMC leader mentioned that whenever one shares data, he or she gets alerts.
"My wife is in America. She gets mails from the prime minister," he said and added that he has "no clue" how his wife's email ID was taken.
"There are two issues, Sir. Please guard our data so that big brother is not watching you and don't make Aadhaar compulsory for farm loans," he added.
Ritabrata Banerjee (IND) raised the issue of renaming the state West Bengal as Bangla.
"I urged upon the Government of India to clear the name Bangla in place of West Bengal as it has been unanimously passed by the West Bengal state assembly," he said.
