Unhappy over slipping to third position in the World Bank-DIPP ease of doing business ranking, Gujarat Chief Secretary J N Singh today said the state is confident of grabbing the numero uno slot again.
Gujarat slipped from top position to number three in the ease of doing business index released in October, overtaken by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
"From number one, we came to number three... Andhra Pradesh and Telangana topped. We are competing with them... out of over 300 questions (circulated by DIPP) it was one or two where we felt that we have been wrongly marked. That is our feeling," Singh told reporters here.
He further said the state would go through each criteria and all departments will endeavour to improve their performance.
"We are one of the attractive states and we will have to regain the number one position," he said.
When asked whether he has raised his concerns with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Singh said they have discussed.
The World Bank-DIPP ranking was prepared based on comparative performance among states and UTs based on reforms on 58 regulatory processes, policies, practices, or procedures spread across 10 reform areas spanning the life-cycle of a typical business.
These are mainly single window clearance, tax reforms, labour and environment reforms, dispute resolution and construction permit.
Talking about Vibrant Gujarat Summit, 2017, in January Singh said besides attracting investment, the aim will be to discuss new ideas and thinking with global businesses.
A seminar will also be held featuring Nobel laureates during the four-day summit mainly to attract students towards innovation.
He also said that Gandhinagar and Surat railway station will be redeveloped to commercially utilise the place.
On January 9, BSE will launch its international exchange in the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), India's only global financial and IT hub.
