The Lok Sabha constituency of Vadodara, vacated by Prime Minister Modi, and nine Assembly seats in Gujarat will see bye-election on September 13.
"Results of recently held bye-elections in Bihar and Karnataka have pumped energy into Congress. Within 90 days of its rule at the Centre, BJP is losing ground as people are highly disappointed with it. So, start working with zeal and energy for the upcoming bye-elections in Gujarat," AICC General Secretary in-charge of Gujarat Gurudas Kamat said here.
"I want to assure you that party will reward those whose work has been exceptional," said Kamat in a bid to boost the morale of Congress activists, who are reeling under the impact of the mauling by BJP in the last Lok Sabha polls.
The meeting was attended by several top leaders such as Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Arjun Modhwadia, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Shankersinh Vaghela, former Ministers Bharatsinh Solanki and Tushar Chaudhari, among others.
Vaghela asked Congressmen to work with dedication for the bye-polls. "We all need to work together to ensure victory on maximum seats. Local leaders must accept responsibility for the results of bypolls. Leaders are required to give maximum time for election-related work."
"After the recent Supreme Court ruling about tainted ministers, we have passed a resolution to compel the Centre as well as Gujarat government to remove such ministers. Apart from 13 Union Ministers, two ministers in Gujarat are facing several serious charges. We will organise statewide protests if they are not removed," said GPCC spokesperson Mansih Doshi.
