Mamlatdar (revenue officer) Satish Paadvi from Dahod district of Gujarat appeared before Justice R M Chhaya as the court wanted to put some questions to him with regard to a case.
However, Paadvi's speech was slurred and his gestures strange.
When the judge asked him the reason for this, Paadvi said it was the effect of a medicine he had taken for his diabetic condition.
The judge was not convinced and asked an Assistant Government Pleader to speak to Paadvi. Paadvi told the pleader that he was drunk, a lawyer present in the court told reporters.
However, Paadvi returned to the courtroom after a while. Considering it to be a serious case of indiscipline, Justice Chhaya called the High Court security staff which handed the official over to Sola police station in the city.
He was arrested on the charge of consuming liquor (as prohibition is in force in the state), said inspector S M Patel.
