Gur prices spurt on paucity of stocks, speculative buying

Gur (jaggery) prices advanced up by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following speculative buying amid tight supplies.

Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets also settled higher on scarcity of stocks, showing a jump of up to Rs 200 per quintal.

Marketmen attributed the rise in prices to negligible arrivals amid adverse weather conditions along with speculative buying by stockists and retailers.

In Delhi, gur pedi, dhayya and shakkar prices hardened by Rs 100 each to end at Rs 3,000-3,100, Rs 3,200-3,300 and Rs 3,300-3,400 per quintal, respectively.

At Muzaffarnagar, gur Chakku and Laddoo prices advanced from Rs 2,450-2,650 and Rs 2,600-2,650 to conclude at Rs 2,500-2,750 and Rs 2,700-2,750, revealing a rise of Rs 100 per quintal each.

Gur Khrupa also improved by Rs 50 to wind up at Rs 2,450-2,500 per quintal.

Coming to Muradnagar, gur Dhayya prices jumped up by Rs 200 to finish the day at Rs 2,750-2,800, while gur Pedi enquired higher by Rs 100 to Rs 2,600-2,700 per quintal.
