Gzb DM directs sugar mill to pay sugarcane arrears to farmers

Ghaziabad District Magistrate today directed a private sugar mill to pay sugarcane arrears to farmers by July 18 or face stern action.
District Magistrate Vimal Kumar Sharma issued a warning to the owners of Modi Sugar mills during his meeting with a delegation of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) convened at conference hall in the collectorate.
Hundreds of farmers from Modinagar, Sadarpur, Fafrana and Muradnagar led by BKU leader Rajbir Singh and Harendra Nehra today met the DM and demanded payment of sugarcane arrears.
Assuring the delegation, Sharma said that administration is "pro-farmer" and will initiate all measures to ensure that the Modi Sugar mills clear the sugarcane arrears by July 18 in compliance with the court order.

Nehra also demanded an increase in the amount of compensation to the farmers whose land has been acquired by the NHAI for construction of Meerut-Dasna highway.
