The woman, who had the habit of chewing and swallowing her own hair, had been suffering from severe stomach pain.
"After conducting surgery for nearly three hours we successfully removed two bunches of hair, weighing 2.5 kg, from the stomach of a woman," Arvind Ghanghoria, one of the 12 doctors involved in the operation at M Y Hospital, said today.
The first bunch of hair weighed 1.9 kg, while the second one was about 500 gm, he said.
The woman, who hails from Harda district, was admitted to the hospital recently. A medical examination revealed presence of tumour-like formations, which turned out to be unnatural growth caused by presence of hair, he said.
The woman's condition is stable after the complex surgery, the doctor added.
