Haryana municipal polls tomorrow
Press Trust of India Chandigarh The municipal elections in Haryana will be held tomorrow amid tight security, the State Election Commission said today.
"All necessary arrangements have been completed for ensuring peaceful, free and fair poll for the general elections to 14 municipal councils and 28 municipal committees..," State Election Commissioner, Haryana, Rajeev Sharma said today.
He said keeping in view the severe heat wave conditions prevailing in the state, an advisory has been issued to all deputy commissioners to ensure that all voters in queue should be under a shelter.
"The DCs have also been asked to make necessary arrangements for drinking water at all polling stations and also ensure that an ambulance is available on call immediately," Sharma said.
He said 1,730 candidates were contesting elections for 354 wards of the municipal councils and 1,608 for 436 wards of municipal committees. There are 13,85,966 voters in these institutions.
Minimum qualification and functional toilet at place of residence was among the eligibility criteria for the contesting candidates.
Sharma said 6,180 officials and 132 duty magistrates and supervisors have been deployed to conduct these elections.
He said that elections were being held for 14 municipal councils, 28 municipal committees and ward number 9 of municipal corporation, Panipat, ward number 1 of municipal council, Rewari and ward number 7 of municipal committee Kalanaur.
Sharma said that polling would be conducted from 7 AM to 5 PM and the counting of votes of these institutions would be done immediately after the poll.
He said arrangements have been made to maintain law and order. There would be heavy deployment of police force to maintain law and order at the polling stations and sensitive areas.
Out of 1,391 polling stations, 261 have been as declared sensitive and 168 as hyper-sensitive.
There would be adequate police force at all the sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations, he added.
He said the Commission had, in association with National Informatics Centre (NIC), Haryana, developed an e-dashboard for monitoring the departure of polling parties, their arrival at polling booths and the progress of the polling.
