The Haryana government started buying mustard seed from farmers as market prices last month fell below the minimum support price of Rs 3,700 per quintal of the crop.
The procurement of mustard seed at the MSP, that include a bonus of Rs 100, is currently underway at 13 purchase centres in nine districts of Gurugram, Rewari, Narnaul, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Charkhi Dadri, Bhiwani, Hisar and Sirsa.
The procurement will continue till May 10, 2017, Hafed chairman Harvinder Kalyan said today.
The payments are being made electronically through RTGS to bank accounts of farmers.
Kalyan said that Haryana has till date procured 67.46 lakh tonnes of wheat during Rabi-2017.
Of this, Hafed has so far purchased the largest share of 35 per cent by procuring 23.90 lakh tonnes of wheat across the state.
