Haryana to improve efficiency of thermal plants

Haryana Power Generation Corporation has embarked on a mission to improve the efficiency of its thermal power stations and further bring down the cost of electricity generation.
The actual cost of generation of Haryana Power Generation Corporation thermal generating units during FY 2015-16 has come down by about 5.6 per cent as compared to the previous fiscal.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of the Corporation said that due to the availability of surplus power, the scheduling of power is done by the distribution companies as per the merit order, prepared on the basis of the cost of electricity, available from various sources.
Therefore, bringing down the cost of generation from its power stations at Panipat, Hisar and Yamunanagar is the foremost priority for the Corporation in order to ensure that its power gets scheduled by the distribution companies.
He said that a slew of efficiency improvement-cum-cost reduction measures have been introduced at Thermal Power Station of the Corporation.
The Haryana Power Generation Corporation has adopted the best operations and maintenance practices of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and best generating utilities of the country, the spokesman said.
Apart from this, the services of ex-BHEL/NTPC and SEC China are availed for advising on critical issues encountered during Operations and Maintenance of thermal generating units.
He said that after the introduction of efficiency improvement-cum-cost reduction measures, the performance parameters that is Station Heat Rate, Specific Oil Consumption, Specific Coal Consumption and Auxiliary Power Consumption of Haryana Power Generation Corporation thermal power stations have improved a lot.
While giving details, he said that during 2015-16 (up to February 2016) Haryana Power Generation Corporation had achieved Station Heat Rate of 2385 Kcal/kwh, Specific Oil Consumption of 0.76 ml/kwh, Specific Coal Consumption of 654 gm/kwh and Auxiliary Power Consumption of 7.79 per cent, which is the lowest ever, since its formation.
He said that all employees of Haryana Power Generation Corporation are being motivated to gear up and to work as a focused team to overcome the current challenges and expressed hope that with this level of monitoring of efficiency parameters, the Haryana Power Generation Corporation will be able to further bring down, the cost of generation of its thermal generating units.
