BJP today took a dig at the Congress over the demand raised by some of its leaders favouring a 'grand alliance' with like-minded parties for the Assembly elections next year.
"We would only like to suggest that before going for any grand alliance, the party (Congress) should have an alliance within itself and make its party base strong," BJP state unit president Vinay Tendulkar told reporters here.
His remark came amid the demand by some Congress leaders to contest upcoming polls in alliance and not alone.
Tendulkar said the talks about the grand alliance of like-minded parties headed by Congress is the "outcome of the fear of getting miserably defeated during the upcoming polls".
Former chief minister and Congress leader Digambar Kamat has said that he preferred all like-minded parties coming together, and that he has conveyed his opinion to the party high command.
Responding to a query, Tendulkar said his party's alliance with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) will continue for the elections.
"BJP-MGP alliance is intact and it will continue. Hence, I don't feel any grand alliance will make any difference. People of Goa are not fool ... They know the kind of work BJP has done through development and social welfare schemes," the BJP leader said.
The BJP-MGP alliance had won majority in 2012 elections, defeating the Congress.
