A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana told this to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Law Ministry while disposing of a petition which sought directions for amendment in the National Honour Act 1971.
Petitioner Gautam R Morarka pleaded before the bench that directions should be given to the Centre in this regard so that proper dignity and respect should be maintained when 'Vande Mataram' is played or sung.
The bench asked Morarka to approach the Home and Law ministries again to pursue their pending representation on the issue.
"By judicial direction, we cannot grant you the relief sought in the petition," the bench said.
"The representation, which is pending before the ministry concerned, shall be considered. The petition is disposed of," it said.
