Justice S Manikumar of Madurai Bench passed the interim order on a petition by a girl student, whose name did not figure in the sports quota rank list released on June 16 despite she being a national level throw ball player, seeking to quash the list.
Directing the university to permit her to participate in the counselling on the basis of certificates furnished by her, the Judge sought full details with regard to sports quota from the University.
According to the admission prospectus, she should have been awarded 730 marks going by her achievements in throw ball, but, her name was omitted in the rank list.
University counsel Rajarajan argued that the Throw Ball Federation was not recognised by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and hence her case cannot be considered under the sports quota.
