Justices K K Sasidharan and G R Swaminathan of the Madurai Bench gave the direction to implead the Chancellor of MKU and Tamil Nadu Governor as a respondent to the petition by one L Antony Raj and posted the matter to July 12.
The petition sought to quash the appointment of the present Vice Chancellor P P Chelladurai citing his criminal past and lack of adequate experience for the post.
The case was still pending.
Besides, Chelladurai had not worked in the grade of professor for prescribed years which is an essential qualification for being appointed as the VC as per UGC norms, he claimed.
Though he was not qualified to be the VC, he was filling vacancies in the university, the petitioner alleged.
Hence, he prayed the Court to stay the filling up of vacancies, and quash his appointment as VC.
