HC directs police to register complaint against institute

The Madras High Court today directed the city police to reigster a cheating complaint against a private hotel management institution and deal with it in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court in Lalitha Kumari case of 2013 related to registration of FIRs.
Justice K B K Vasuki passed the order on a petition by one P Rajaguru, a student of Chennai Amrita International Institute of Hotel Management seeking a direction to the police to register a case on his July 23 complaint and investigate the matter.
The petitioner alleged the institute cheated students like him of lakhs of rupees by giving frivolous advertisements that it had tie-ups with foreign universities for training them in hotel management.
He submitted though he submitted all materials -- oral and documentary -- along with his complaint to the Crime Branch Inspector of Police, no action was taken on it.
Passing orders, the Judge said "as the complaint herein is not only to safeguard the interest of the petitioner but also to safeguard the interest of the similarly-placed students and as the issue relates to the future carrier of the students, this court deems it fit to duly deal with the complaint.
