The Allahabad High Court today dismissed a petition which sought a direction to dissolve and reconstitute the Central Film Censor Board.
The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court comprising Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya dismissed the PIL filed by Hindu Personal Law Board through its president Ashok Pandey.
The court observed in its judgement that "...We are constrained to hold that writ petition is not maintainable. Accordingly, the writ petition is dismissed at its admission stage."
The petitioner had alleged that films like "Gangajal", "Omkara" and to be released "Ram Leela", using abusive language and depicting Hindu Gods, like Ram and Krishna, in bad light, are passed by the Censor Board which hurts the feelings of the Hindu community besides having a bad effect on society and children.
The petitioner contended that the release of such films is also against the provision of Cinematograph Act and prayed that the Censor Board be reconstituted by including retired judges.
