A petition has been filed in the Madras High Court here seeking action against 83 Group I service officials, whose selection by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission had been set aside by the Supreme Court, for staying in the state guest house in Delhi by 'falsely' stating that they were on official duty.
Petitioner A Kannan charged that the officials were abusing their position and staying in the guest house to attend their 'personal case' in the apex court, falsely claiming that they were on official duty.
He submitted that the apex court had dismissed their appeal against the June 30, 2014 order setting aside their selection.
However, the 83, selected in 2000-01, were continuing in service because the Supreme Court had granted status quo pending some clarification sought by them.
The petitioner, who himself had been selected in the 2000-01 batch, had filed an intervening petition in the apex court and was attending the hearing.
He contended that by staying in the guest house the officials availed concessional rates for the accommodation, resulting in loss to the tune of Rs.800 to Rs.1,000 per person.
He claimed he had received information under Right to Information Act which also proved that they had stayed in the guest house whenever the case was being heard.
"They might have entered false entries in their diary or tour register and obtained salary also for the period. Hence a thorough investigation is necessary," he said.
He had sent a representation to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for registering a case against them and take action, but so far there was no response.
Justice M.Sathyanaraynan posted the petition for hearing on April 6.
