A bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and Najmi Wajiri issued notices to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Sports Authority of India (SAI) and sought their responses by May 27 on the PIL alleging that the committee, which was set up for selection, had illegally selected N Ramachandran, President of World Squash Federation and also Patron of Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI), for the Award in 2011.
Filing a PIL through counsel Rahul Mehra, a group of sports enthusiasts and social activists alleged RKPP was granted to Ramachandran who did not fulfill the basic requirements of eligibility and the decision of selection committee was illegal, arbitrary, bad in law and the decision is liable to be set aside.
